Keystep Play Button Flashing

No more stuck note in Kbd Play mode when switching MIDI channel. Lights on the Keystep, i.e. If the octave down/up lights are flashing I can.

Arturia KeystepArturia’s Keystep controller is a combination of an intuitive keyboard controller and a polyphonic step sequencer that is capable of controlling both analog and digital gear. Regardless of the intended instruments, the Keystep is intended to make a noticeable impact on the user’s performance. The unit features three CV outputs, a MIDI DIN output, a 32-note slim-key keybed with velocity and aftertouch, a polyphonic 64-step sequencer, and an arpeggiator.

Hey,on the off chance someone has had this problem beforeI’ve just got myself a brand new Arturia Keystep. I unboxed it, connected it to my laptop directly with USB, connected the MIDI OUT to the MIDI IN of my Blofeld, held down SHIFT-and the E key to select MIDI channel 12 (which is what my Blofeld listens on) and started playing. It works, except the lower 8 keys act strangely. They all seem to play chords, change octave, activate the record mode, or start the sequencer. If feels totally buggy. It only happens on the lower 8 keys (so the lowest F up to the lowest C on the keyboard. The weird behaviour is locally consistent; playing that C always plays a chord, playing B always plays a chord and activates the RECORD mode so I thought it might be a configuration thing.I used the software “MIDI Control Centre” to reload the factory sequences, I performed a factory reset by holding OCT+ and OCT- while starting up, and I reinstalled the current firmware.

  1. Just a bit of playing around with the step sequencer on the Arturia Keystep MIDI Controller, using it to sequence a Yamaha CS5 analog mono synth and a Futuresonus Parva polyphonic synth.
  2. Arturia KeyStep with Dreadbox NYX and Elektron Digitakt. The keyboard on the KeyStep is pressure and velocity sensitive and was enjoyable to play for me. If you really want flashing buttons and a moving playhead then you might be.

None of those actions made any difference at all to the behaviour. Can anyone give me any tips on this before I take it back to the retailer?Edit: of course I’ll open a support ticket with Arturia tooThanks in advance!! Good ideas!I just disconnected it from my laptop and connected it to a USB power supply.

The behaviour was the same. I also switched the DIP switches from USB to Internal; same behaviour.I have only connected to the MIDI OUT (goes direct to Blofeld MIDI IN). USB is now just supplying power.I also considered that it might be a Blofeld thing, but, when I press F, the Keystep sends several notes to the Blofeld, AND the record light lights up, AND the hold button turns on (and stays on), AND while I am holding the F key down the SHIFT and OCT- buttons light up (and stay lit until I release the F key.)Different keys down there at the lower end have different behaviours. I’m unconvinced that it has anything to do with the Blofeld, to be honest.I just disconnected everything except power. When I play the low notes, the same thing happens.

When I play all of the higher notes, nothing happens visually on the Keystep. When I get down to the lowest C, the HOLD button lights up and stays lit. In fact, I just noticed that playing the C note repeatedly toggles the state of the HOLD button light. When I go down one more note and play the B, the red RECORD light lights up, and while I am holding the B note down, SHIFT and OCT+ light up. (I guess it’s actually shifting octaves; when I do it repeatedly the OCT light blinks faster and faster.)When I press the A key, it shifts up an octave (OCT+ lights up) and the play button starts blinking rapidly. Is this behaviour normal? Mrbernard:I’m tracking now I think. To be clear, this behavior is happening on the keystep with nothing hooked up except power? If so, that isn’t normal. I’m not sure if there’s a factory reset option in the software, but it’s worth a shot, along with any firmware updates.

Mine does not behave as you’ve recently described.Gotchya that’s what I wanted to hear. I mean it isn’t. But at least it’s some confirmation that my device is fkd.I’ve tried a “factory reset” (hold down OCT+ and OCT- while powering on) and I have reinstalled the firmware; neither helped. And, correct - nothing is connected except power, and it still does this weird stuff. Thanks for your input everyone!
